PRE & POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure you get the most out of your treatment, here are some things you can do before and after!
Preparation will enhance your comfort, ease your experience, and allow your mind to relax during your treatments. Not to mention it makes our jobs a little bit easier too. For certain treatments, pre and post-care steps will make a huge difference in the effectiveness and longevity of your service. Let’s get to it.
BioRePeel
-
• Do NOT use any Actives such as: Hydroxy Acid, (HAH’s BHA, Salicylic) Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare. • Keep your skin hydrated before and after treatment
• Do not consume alcohol 24 hours before your appointment
• Do not use exfoliating products for 24 hours prior to treatment
• Do not use the self-tanning agents and avoid UV exposure for 14 days prior to treatment • Avoid waxing, bleaching or hair removal for 14 days prior to treatment
• If you are taking a blood thinner, aspirin or any other medications you may be required to obtain a GP approval letter for the treatment.
• On the day of the treatment, please do not apply makeup.
• If you are planning to have Botox or fillers please allow 2 weeks after your Botox appointment prior to BioRePeel.
-
• Immediately after your treatment, your skin may be more sensitive than usual. Use tepid water for
the initial 24 hours to wash the treated area.
• After 24 hours, use a gentle cleanser to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and gently dry
the treated skin.
• Do not use non-mineral make up for 48 hours post treatment
• Keep the skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer. Hydrating boosting cream. Trio or Acu Cream
• Do not take any inflammatory medicines for at least 2 weeks post treatment.
• Do not apply makeup or sunscreen for 24 hours after the procedure.
• Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not new/recently cleaned.
• After the initial 24 hours, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 for at least two weeks. A mineral based sunscreen is highly recommended. Coola, Skinbetter Tone smart compact or Ela spa
Photofacial
-
Three days prior to treatment, avoid all magnesium and omega supplements as this may cause excessive bruising
Please avoid self tanners for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment
Be sure to make me aware of any fillers or Botox beforehand
-
If needed, you can apply a cool compress, chilled gel or hydro gel pads to the treated area. Do NOT use ice. This may increase redness and swelling!
Treated lentigines (aka liver spots), usually darken slowly over the next 24-72 hours. Crusting (it’s what we want to see!) begins to form within a few days. The crusting will resolve itself in 1-3 weeks
Allow the crusts to naturally flake off for best results
Redness or swelling is normal; this will subside within 24 to 72 hours
WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN – OBSESSIVELY! Apply multiple times throughout the day and avoid sun exposure for a minimum of one week and up to 14 days (14 days is recommended)
Avoid artificial tanning or sun exposure between treatments
-
• For at least 7-14 days post treatment, do NOT use any Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
• Avoid excessive IV exposure sun beds and tanning creams for 14 days post-treatment. • Avoid waxing, bleaching or hair removal for 14 days post-treatment
• Do not go swimming or use the sauna/steam room for 14 days post-treatment.
• Do not participate in strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
• Any concerns please contact the clinic 519-861-2273
Laser Hair Removal
-
Please shave/trim the area prior to treatment (no waxing or plucking – we need that root!)
To reduce/prevent razor bumps, try using conditioner to shave
Be sure to make the area smooth by exfoliating with an enzyme based exfoliant (we recommend the DMK Micro Peel, which is also an ah-mazing treatment for your face!)
Hydrate the treatment area with moisturizer or proper face cream (preferably fragrance free or low scent)
To be successful, you will need a series of treatments; avoid all waxing and plucking (remember: we need that root!). The average number of treatments is 5 – 8 sessions
-
Tiny red bumps (erythema and perifollicular oedema) are common but not the benchmark of a successful treatment
Your hair is going to fall out – yay!! – but this could take up to 2 weeks. Keep shaving and trimming to help pull those little guys out
Avoid heat for 24-48 hours – that includes hot tubs, saunas, hot French guys (kidding on the last one!)
NO DIRECT SUN for 48 hours
If a blister or crusting develops, treat it as a wound and do NOT ice it
Do not wax or pluck between treatments
Facials
-
Do your research! To make sure we achieve your specific skincare goals, take note of what you like about your skin, what you don’t like and the results you are hoping to achieve
Know your products: your daily skincare routine plays an important role in overall skin health and I will likely ask you about it
Please avoid shaving or waxing 48 hours before your facial
Be sure to avoid tanning beds and sun at least one week pre treatment
Don’t over exfoliate in the 2-3 days leading up to your facial – most facials include an exfoliating treatment and over-buffing can make your skin sensitive before we get to it
-
Drink lots of water! It can help your body through the detox process by flushing your system and maintain that beautiful post-facial glow!
Be gentle to your skin. Allow your skin to absorb the treatment, heal from the treatment process and continue your normal skincare routine
Please do NOT use a scrub or exfoliating product post-facial (unless otherwise specified by me)
Like every other day… don’t touch your face! It’s hard, I know, but do your best to keep your hands off your beautiful, glowing post-facial skin
Avoid waxing for 48 hours afterwards
Please, please don’t pick! Super hard, but messing with your face post-facial can cause irritation and sometimes even scarring. Let that all come out on its own, as tough as that is (for most of us, anyway!)
Please avoid using heavy makeup. After a deep cleanse, your pores are wide open and makeup will block those right back up again. Leave the foundation and other heavy makeup for a day, let your skin settle naturally and clean all your brushes and applicators before you apply it again
Guess what? You get a rest day! Skip your gym/sweat sesh to avoid irritating that freshly exfoliated skin. Saunas are also a no-go post treatment – you’ve already been cleaned and steamed so leave it at that and enjoy that glow!
One of the key things to remember about any treatment is that there is no quick fix.
Facials, like any other beauty treatment, should be thought of as one part of a wider regimen. What you eat, how much water you drink and your daily skincare routine will all contribute to the overall success of your treatment. Be good to yourself!
Chemical Peels
-
Are on Accutane: you have to be finished your last dose of this medication at least 1 year prior to your chemical peel
Are pregnant or lactating – it’s not safe, so it’s a no-go
Are allergic to Asprin
Are sunburned or have compromised skin. An outdoors life style enthusiasts, tanning bed users, avid golfers or skiers and sun worshipers should refrain
Have a serious medical condition (Heart condition/problem, Immunity disorder, Diabetes etc.)
Have active cold sores or lesions, an active facial rash or have severe Rosacea (call me about the Rosacea; we may be able to work something out)
Are on the medications for Diabetes Type 2, Lupus or chemo
-
Use Retin-A. You must discontinue for 7- 10 days prior to treatment
Have permanent cosmetics. Please wait 7 days then cover with occlusive barrier
Have had any facial surgery. We need to get your doctor’s approval first!
Have had facial waxing. We require a 72-hour waiting period
-
Please limit sun exposure for 2 weeks prior to treatment (including tanning beds!)
Discontinue any topical prescriptions or any products containing Retinol or Vitamin A (avoid any/all products with Retinol for a minimum of 1 week prior to your treatment)
Avoid waxing, electrolysis, hair removal creams and laser hair removal treatments
Avoid sun exposure (and tanning beds)
Do not receive Botox or dermal fillers
Do not have another facial or peel treatment
-
Do not use any alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), beta hydroxy acid (BHA) and benzoyl peroxide
Stop any exfoliating products that may be drying or irritating
MEN: DO NOT SHAVE
-
Chemical peels should be done in a series of three to six peels. For the best results, we recommend a series of six peels, three weeks apart
Depending on the type of peel, you may notice a mild tingling sensation or feel heat on the skin. Some acids are neutralized by us and some acids are self-neutralizing, so they keep working after you leave
By the second or third day, you’ll notice peeling or flaking around the mouth and then the forehead. Keep your skin well-hydrated; it will continue to peel for seven to 10 days. This process is called Desquamation. DO NOT pick this skin and let it flake off naturally.
It’s important that you avoid generating any additional heat during the first 48 hours. Because layers of the skin have just been exfoliated off, exposing a fresh new layer, skin will be more susceptible to burning
After receiving your peel, do not use any skin care products that have not been approved by me. You can start your post treatment regime the next morning
Chemical peels are only done in the late fall/winter months.
The sun can cause damage to your skin post-peel. It is VERY important that sun is avoided as much as possible and sunscreen is worn and reapplied religiously.
Broken Capillaries
Vascular Treatments
-
Three days prior to treatment, avoid all magnesium and omega supplements as this may cause excessive bruising
This treatment can NOT be done if you are taking Acutane or have taken Acutane in the past 6 months
Please refrain from using self tanners or tanning beds for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment
Be sure to make me aware of any fillers or Botox; any/all prescribed medications before your treatment (some medications or medical conditions can cause unexpected reactions); any treatment areas that have permanent makeup applications; any surgical implants in the area to be treated or any metal implants in the treatment area
-
A cool compress or chilled gel pack may be applied post-treatment
Compression stockings can be worn (depending on the treatment area) to give you some extra comfort and to help reduce bruising after your treatment
Please avoid heat for at least 24 hours (hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms)
Avoid the sun/sun exposure and apply sunscreen to the treated area (Reapply to a degree that feels ridiculous – in this case, you can’t be too protected!)
While time between treatments does vary; this could be 6 weeks (minimum) up to 12-14 weeks and beyond, it does depend on the treatment area, how your body reacted to the treatment, etc.
Please take into consideration that the larger vessels may take months to resolve and should not be re-treated before then
-
Bruising is common – don’t freak out! It’s all part of the process
A hive-like reaction may occur with smaller vessels
If you develop a blister, treat it like you would a wound
Hemosiderin staining (a fancy term for iron leaking into the tissue from blood breakdown) may occur and will naturally dissolve over time
Microneedling
-
Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.
Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.
Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.
Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.
No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before your appointment.
If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.
Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.
-
Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for one week after the procedure.
Do not use ice on your face, and avoid using arnica/bromelain. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that’s critical for your skin rejuvenation.
Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use sunblock (30 SPF or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.
Use a painkiller, such as Tylenol, if you experience any soreness.
-
Microneedling is a quick and non-invasive cosmetic procedure with minimal side effects. However, it’s quite normal to experience the following:
Day 1-3
A sunburn-like effect is normal. Your skin may feel tight, dry or sensitive to touch. Treat the skin gently by washing it with a gentle cleanser, cool water, and using only your hands to pat dry no earlier than 4 hours after treatment.
Some redness may also be present and in some cases, patients may experience slight bruising that can last for 5-7 days and temporary swelling for 2-4 days.
Tips
Avoid strenuous exercises that cause sweating as well as jacuzzis, saunas, and steam baths for 48 hours post-treatment.
Use only mineral makeup after 24 hours.
Day 2-7
Peeling may start 3-5 days after the treatment. You’ll notice skin dryness and flaking which is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. DO NOT pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin!
Important information: You must allow the old skin to flake off naturally and keep it moisturized at all times. Talk to your skin specialist about which products to use.
Day 5-7
You may start your regular skin care products again, once your skin no longer feels irritated. Most of our patients have noticed continued skin improvement over the months following their last treatment.
For best results: We recommend follow-up and repeat microneedling treatments every 6-8 weeks, with a series of 3-5 treatments depending on your personalized care plan.
Secret RF Microneedling

Be it acne scars, fine lines, or photodamage; it’s a novel approach, to deliver fractional radio frequency (RF) energy to all layers of the skin with minimal damage to the skin’s surface.
